Top excellence award for Kilmun bistro

July 4, 2012
EXCLUSIVE:
A BRING-your-own-bottle bistro and guest house in Cowal has been awarded of a top accolade from one of the world’s biggest travel websites.
TripAdvisor has bestowed a prestigious 2012 Certificate of Excellence on the popular Pier Guest House and Bistro in Kilmun.
The honour comes after diners consistently heaped the highest praise on the bistro and recommended it to people across the globe with a top rating of 5.0.
Delighted proprietor Ian Murray – who runs the award-winning establishment with his wife, Estralita – said: “It is great to be recognised for the hard work that we and the team have put into the business over the past 12 months.
“We believe that customers have benefited from us being the first ‘bring-your-own-bottle’ establishment in the area.
“And our ever popular Sunday Carvery is now bringing in customers from the whole of Argyll and Inverclyde.”
TripAdvisor hailed the Pier’s award – and the flood of customer recommendations which secured it – as an “exceptional achievement”.
The website told Ian and Estralita: “Display your award proudly in a place where your guests can see it, as only the very best in the business are awarded a Certificate of Excellence.”
Ian – who took over the place in 2003 – told CowalCourier.com this morning how he was “pleasantly surprised” when he opened an envelope to find the certificate.
He added: “We have really focused on the business over the last year since stopping our outside catering operation – and it’s certainly paid off.
“We are delighted to have won, and that so many people took the time to say how much they enjoyed their experience with us.”
As well as the bistro, the guest house has had a major refurbishment in the last year and now has five letting bedrooms and a brand new gallery room, available for private parties and meetings.
And the fact that customers have been able to bring their own bottle to the place since 2009 means healthy savings can be made on the wine bill too.
TripAdvisor – which offers trusted advice from real travellers – has more than 50 million unique monthly visitors, and operates in 30 countries around the globe.

We were guests at a buffet in the Pier some years ago. It was beyond compare, imaginative and utterly delicious – better, in fact, than a buffet for a Royal visit to Shetland we had been to some years earlier.
This accolade is richly deserved.
