EXCLUSIVE:

SHOCKING new figures today reveal that Dunoon’s highly controversial passenger-only ferry service is now performing WORSE than when CowalCourier.com told how cancellations were 900 per cent above the national average – seven months ago.

Call-offs and weather-related non-sailings – which Argyll Ferries don’t include in their official performance stats – are now running at an astonishing 1,500 PER CENT above the norm for all of Scotland’s ferry routes combined, we can exclusively reveal.

This service was designed to fail. Even on a six year tender portacabins are not appropriate shore facilities and the stripping of services at the Gourock Waiting room tells you all you need to know.

Provision of pontoons at over £1million would merely be another huge waste of public monies to go with the several millions wasted on the linkspan infrastucture that was built for two new ferries and the £2 million plus per year subsidy being provided for the present nonsense service.

The money wasted could be used in building new vehicle carrying boats which require no subsidy to operate.

Nice to see you publish the ferry story keep plugging away at this there could be a loss of life if they keep running these ferries on the Clyde, I was at sea for years yet I will not travel on them if there is the least bit of wind they are not suitable for the run let us have a comment now from SNP representatives and our esteemed MSP on the subject show you have no bias in favour of anyone and be a campain newspaper for the area that way your sales will grow and Standard will get nothing the rubbish they are printing keep up the standard let us see good copy in your paper every week now.

As we have said before. CowalCourier.com reports without fear or favour, and we will be following this story up very robustly.

My God. If you want people to be able to read your comment, try using some punctuation. I almost passed out trying to read that comment in one breath.

I can assure gmOkbc that most of the local SNP are appalled by this inadequate service and are in constant contact with those above about this issue.

  4. Jim Law says:

The people who regularly use the ferries know how bad they are and possibly the SNP Minister who visited, but John Mather lied to the Dunoon people at the hustings and was never seen again. The present SNP MSP promised a Parliamentary enquiryIt, but has not said or done much. The local SNP councilors both previous and present have been silent. They have kept their heads well down –possibly in case they rock the SNP boat in Holyrood.
It is time they stood up and joined the community they represent and take this to the Scottish Goevernment.

  5. sneckedagain says:

Both local SNP councillors are members of the Ferry Action Group, one of them in,fact being Secretary of it, in constant contact with Transport Scotland and Infrasructure Minister Alex Neil. Local SNP members have made a lot of noise on this issue over the years and continue to do so.

My partner has used this service everyday to travel to work since it has started and i have only had to pick her up from western 3 times its not as bad as people make out! If they are that bad then health and safety requirements would not allow them to travel! Get over it!
