Courier launches ‘Watchman’ opinion blog

August 7, 2012
THE title and spirit of a local newspaper from a bygone age is being resurrected by CowalCourier.com today in the form of a new opinion blog which we hope will enhance your enjoyment of our daily news website.
A weekly journal called The Cowal Watchman was widely read throughout the peninsula from 1876 – and its name has provided the inspiration for our new editorial feature.
The blog – simply called ‘The Watchman’ – delves behind the headlines of the important local issues of today and gives another perspective to complement the views expressed by our readers via our ‘Have your say’ forum.
The identity of The Watchman will remain a closely guarded secret – with his blog only being read by us, and edited where necessary, before his posts are published on the website.
But what we can tell you is that he has the best interests of Dunoon and Cowal at heart, and he won’t pull his punches where people in positions of trust and authority deserve criticism.
The Watchman has chosen for his debut post the ongoing passenger safety scandal currently engulfing Caledonian MacBrayne boss Archie Robertson – as well as the vital wider issue of the future of Dunoon’s lifeline ferry service.

Watchman aka Neil Kay, unmasked on his first article. How predictable.
Wrong! Try again.
How about George MacKinnon
How did you guess?…Nope, sorry Anne, you’re barking up the wrong community pillar there, I’m afraid.
The watchman is the editor of this cowal courier – unmasked
Wrong. And there is more than one ‘Watchman’.
